Segmental block walls
Versa-Lok, Keystone, and similar block systems — great for 2–4 foot walls, quick to install, good aesthetics.

Excavation Services · Duluth, MN
Duluth has hills. Hills mean grade changes. Grade changes mean retaining walls. We build walls that do their job — which is holding back thousands of pounds of saturated soil through freeze/thaw cycles without bowing, cracking, or sliding. The two things that kill retaining walls are frost and water. We design for both.
What you get
Versa-Lok, Keystone, and similar block systems — great for 2–4 foot walls, quick to install, good aesthetics.
For taller walls and heavy loads. Engineered rebar, proper footings, and clean form lines.
4-inch perforated drain tile at the base, 12 inches of clean rock behind, weep holes every 10 feet.
Walls over 4 feet or those holding back a slope get geogrid buried into the backfill at each course.

Seen on the ground
Every retaining walls job we take in Duluth and the Twin Ports gets the same treatment: a careful site walk, a written estimate, proper prep, and work that holds up through Minnesota winters.
If you’re not sure whether we’re the right fit, call — we’ll tell you honestly. If it’s outside our wheelhouse or service area, we’ll point you to somebody who can help.
Our process
We measure grades, check soil, and design the wall system. Walls over 4 feet get engineered drawings.
Frost-depth footing for poured walls. 6–12 inches of compacted crushed rock for block walls.
Forms and rebar for poured, course-by-course placement for block. Drainage installed as we build.
Clean rock against the wall, filter fabric, then topsoil and planting or rock cover.
